Episode 43 – Hmmm… I Don’t Know/Sloppy Turkey Sandwich

Brian Botley is BACK!  Heh… Sucker…..

We start off the show with some round table discussion, and then..To the GRAB BAG!

First up, Vains of Jenna.  Botley apparently knows who they are.  Jeff and Rob agree, possibly for the first time ever on Metal Rules Radio, that they like them!  Botley hates them.  Angus is on the fence, and Josh wants to have their children.

Next up, Unleash the Archers.  No… we didn’t watch Gladiator.  Although we should have!  That movie rules!  Remember when they hung his family and burned them?  Her feet nearly made me puke with all the burning scaling flesh…. But I digress… These guys get a general “eh” from most of us.  Which is neither great nor awful.  But check them out anyhow.

We go into our interview of the night with Steve Gaines.  He was originally in Lynyrd Skynyrd, but died.    Then he came back as a metal dude in Anger As Art!  It’s a true Hollywood story.

Aaaand… Back the the bag!  Angus pulls out Deathrash.  Jeff loves these guys.  Jeff loves thrash in general.  If Jeff were a metal genre, he’d be thrash.  If Jeff were to get married again, he’d carry Maria across the thrashhold.   Jeff goes out and rolls around in poison ivy, just so he can get a rash simply because it’s two letters short of thrash.  Jeff doesn’t take out the trash, he takes out the thrash, and his family knows it or it’s PIMP HAND STRONG!

The End..

Episode 42 – Five Pronged Party

Make sure you celebrate Jeff’s party longer! Brian Botley is back and hanging out with us again.

We have about 15 minutes to discuss rousing topics such as doing shots out of Jeff’s belly, and taming hot sauce with soft soap.

From there we move into our first interview with Tommy Victor of Prong. New album to be released around October. We check out some Prong at the end of the interview.

More Rambling, and then ONTO THE GRAB BAG!

First up – Revenant Dead I don’t think these guys cut it as far as we we’re all concerned, but hey you may like them. Check them out.

Next up – The Wounded Kings – You be the judge…

And then…. This moment in Black History, they’re not exactly metal. At all. But still, some of you might dig it.

And then… No and then…. And then… No and then… AND THEEEEEENNN… Root!

Listen to Jeff read the Adam and Eve Plug!

Episode 41 – Dead Cow Punch

Brian Botley is sitting in with us again this week, and we get his friends calling in.

First up is the GRAB BAG OF METAL! Botley pulls out St. Madness.

Next we get into a round table discussion about a melting pot of topics including Cheap Trick and Terry Gilliam movies.  You may be wondering what Terry Gilliam and Cheap Trick have in common, and apart from both willing to be The Flame, we believe they’re both heavily into bananas.  Lots of bananas.

We get a make up phone call from Joey Allen of Warrant. This guy’s on thin ice for ditching us last week, but we’re a bunch of forgiving teddy bears and take his call anyway.

From there we talk to our second interview of the night – Bruce Corbitt of Rigor Mortis/Warbeast.

BACK TO THE BAG FOR ONE LAST HURRAH!  We pull out Rob Halford’s Winter Songs.  That’s right, winter songs.  Hey, next time you’re at your grandma’s for Christmas and she wants to have the family gather around the fire to sing about Jolly old St. Nick in 4 part harmony, try Rob Halford’s winter songs instead.  She’ll either love it and slip you the tongue, or hate it and ban you from family functions henceforth.  Hope your grandma’s hot dude…

Episode 40 – Charred Cherry Pie of the Damned

What do metalrulesradio.com and majorleagueasshole.net have in common?  Brian Botley!  You may remember him as Hardcore Brian from the zine days.  That’s right, he’s back and sexier than ever.  And this week he’s sitting in on the show.  We start the show off by talking to him for a while.  Check out his blog at majorleagueasshole.net, become his fan on facebook, call him and ask him to strip for your bachelorette party, he’s game.

From Botley, we jump into the Grab Bag of Metal and pull out Grindbashers.  These guys have been grabbed before, like a good looking goat in a hillbilly bar.   BACK TO THE BAG!

Next we pull out Sparzanza who did a pretty good cover of Billy Idol’s Rebel Yell.  And finally Botley goes for the hat trick and pulls out The Seed.

Finally we start a REALLY good discussion of submitting music to a show digitally vs. hard copy.  But we had to cut this discussion short because we were rudely interrupted by our interview of the night, Richard Christy.

Episode 39 – Aggravated Perineum

Jeremy is still here as Rob is off in Canada to join Alpha Flight. We digress into comics briefly then go right into our interview with Jason Netherton of Misery Index, cofounder of Dying Fetus. Great interview. Not like last week when Josh kept calling ALL the WRONG numbers.

Thanks Josh.

We talked a bit about various Metal Fests, the good, the bad, the weather. We’re gonna be at the Maryland DeathFest, come see us and laugh.

We impromptu called Chris Kontos. Chris friggin rules!!

We tried to call Jeff Becerra, he wasn’t there.

On to the GRAB BAG! But first we call Rob’s voicemail so we can include him in on the grab bag. First up is Roxx pulled by ANGUS! Jeff and Josh met the singer, Joseph D’Angeli. Roxx, well, rocks. Great glamrock for those of you into that. Somehow we went from talking about Roxx to Mark Singer, to the Original V series, to the remake V series to Serenity and space hookers then back to Roxx.

Back to the bag grabbin’

Jeff pulls Orcrist. Yay, Lord of the Rings reference! Josh predicts “Goblin Metal”. Josh doesn’t care for the vocals‚ and might start a section on the website called, “Goblin Metal” where he will rant about things he doesn’t like. Hence forth referring to such things as “Goblin Metal”. Josh launches into the bag and comes up with Morphine Killer. Great music, but the guy has terrible vocals. Josh declares his love for Rob then we address the complaints about the way CDs are reviewed on the show.

One more from the grab bag. Jeremy picks Scheisse Minnelli from the almighty grab bag o’ holding. They had a very early Suicidal Tendencies/Black Flag sound to them.

Jeff suggest that everyone checks out the movie Repo Man.

Josh wanted to mention that it’s almost Valentine’s Day, so check out our sponsor Adam & Eve, adameve.com use the code word METAL to get 50% off almost any one item, 3 FREE DVDs, one special mystery gift and AND FREE SHIPPING on your order.

We learn something disturbing about Josh’s grandmom…

We wrap the show with a discussion of the Conan and Lenno “Late Night Wars” and what famous persons were born the same day as us…make sure you listen‚ it’s riveting.

Episode 38 – The Return of El Gigante

Filling in for Rob this week is none other than JEREMY whist Rob petitions PA Gov. Rendell to make “Steak & BJ Day” a recognized holiday, the long lost Jeremy hath returned. It is discovered that his sea shell collection is complete he has them all. The first call is out to Jason Netherton of Misery Index and co-founder of Dying Fetus. Unfortunately he wasn’t there, so Josh made a separate call to Jason. Little did Josh suspect he was actually calling Robert Fleischman from Journey & The Vinnie Vincent Invasion‚ nothing like being on top of the game right?

Professionalism, thy name is Metal Rules! Radio.

Thankfully Robert Fleischman is a great guy and totally let our mistake pass. While Josh and Jeff try to figure out the lunacy, Angus and Jeremy discuss the newest Terry Pratchett book, “Unseen Academicals“, the George R. R. Martin books, Dashell Hammett’s the Maltese Falcon and Cormac McCarthy’s  The Road.

Then Josh and Jeff return. So, basically you can skip the first 11 and a half minutes of the show. At the 11:40 mark we talk to Robert Fleischman.

From there we called Bruce Corbit. He wasn’t there so we left a message.

SO! We get things back on track by catching up with Jeremy. Talk about the NJ Medical Marijuana law that passed, some new “Dimebag” Darrell items were released around Christmas time‚ we mulled who would get the cut of the money and does this constant new releasing of songs, items, etc… detracts the overall image of “Dimebag” Darrell. Much like what was done with John Lennon and the Beatles.

Onto the GRAB BAG!!!

Jeremy pulls from the grab bag first and he comes up with‚ The Mighty Swine . They have a very dated Grunge sound. Angus pulls Carpathian Forest‚ they rocked.

An urgent communique from Rob‚ he texted in the plug for Adam & Eve. Even though Rob isn’t present, he’s still doing the show‚ remote style. With the plug for our sponsor Adam & Eve. To see the awesome details click the ad link in the right sidebar.

We wrap the show and have a good cry.

In this episode, Angus listens to Preston and Steve on WMMR in Philadelphia, and they played metal.  That pleases the Angus.

We interview Jim Adams, lead guitarist for the thrash metal band “Defiance“.  Jeff steals all of Angus’ questions, but you won’t hear any complaining here folks. Angus is awesome at suppressing emotions.  Tune in for a future segment – “Angus goes postal”.

Mike Gorham, famed singer of the Metal Rules! Radio theme song, and all around awesome guy, is our guest host for this weeks show.  Check out his channel on YouTube.

We start out with a solid 17 minutes of round table and then jump right into the Grab Bag of Metal!

First up, Carbon 9.

We listen to Tiberius Project.

The funny thing about guests of the Metal Rules! Radio show is that 99% of the time they are excited to talk to us and follow through on their plans to stop by, call in, or wait anxiously by the phone for us to call them.  BUT… There is that 1% of the guests that DICK US OVER!  And that 1% is SPIDER!  That’s right, Spider of Powerman 5000 completely screwed us and didn’t call.  It takes a special team of guys to handle that kind of a dick over and have the show go on without a hitch.  And that special group of guys is clearly not Metal Rules! Radio.  No, instead of having a well though out backup plan, we ran around panicking trying to figure out what to do next.  So we tried calling friends of the show, and finally got a hold of Mike Mawby, former guest host on the show.  But hilarity truly found its way to the show when we spoke to Chris Kontos, who answered all of the questions we had for Spider, as Spider!  It was a huge rebound from the middle finger we received from Spider.

We jump back into the Grab Bag of Metal. This time it’s Combat.

Rob has it out with Renee!  Live on the phone!

Finally we listen to the Nigel Dupree Band and close out the show with them.

Episode 15: What’chu Talkin’ ‘Bout Josh

We start the show off with a rousing tale from Jeff about angel dust and crying. Quickly then to Jeff’s Grab Bag of Metal. Elenium – Caught in a Wheel. Moving onward we, Rob, interviews Edie McClurg (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, The Hogan Family). Sadly we just had a few tech quirks at that exact time. Jeff’s mic was coming across too hot causing it to break up (we believe) on Edie’s speaker phone. You mostly hear Rob doing the interview. Towards the end we got Jeff’s mic working better. Jeff did all this work to set the interview up and in the end hardly got any questions in. Isn’t technology great? The show took a turn when we heard way too much about his prostate exam. From there we tumble into What’s Wrong with Jeff! Amazingly there’s a lot. He lost his electricity, his router died, his toe is infected and he has a random hive. We wrap the show with an impromptu call to Josh.

Episode 11: Midgets of Nok Su Cow

ED sits in for Jeremy while he is on a soul seeking walkabout in Cambodia.

We have news!  We pay our respects (sort of) to Midnight from Crimson Glory (You Tube clip of Ski and Mike Gorham) and we learn of Phil from Malevolent Creation’s latest convenient store adventures.

Question for the listeners – is it ok to re-record a hit album 20 years after the original release? Leave us your comments.

Dream Theater has a new CD, Black Clouds and Silver Linings. Angus saw a guy play a stick.  Killswitch Engage has a new CD, self titled.

We listen to Machine Dog from the 80’s and compare it to the new Machine Dog (which we also listen to).  Then as a REALLY special treat, we listen to Johnny Sin.  Strap in kids!  We listen to a couple of tracks including staff favorite Big Black Lesbians.

Slayer has a new album coming out – World Painted Blood, and will be playing the Mayhem Festival with Marilyn Manson.

We interview Jason McMaster of Watchtower, Dangerous Toys, and Broken Teeth. He’s an excellent interview, a self proclaimed metal dork, and a friend of the show.

Episode 10: The Fiery Remains

Metal Rules Veteran Ed, aka “Stroke“, sits in for Jeremy who is off on a secret mission in, we believe, Nicaragua.

We interview Bill Leverty, the guitar player for Firehouse. Angus reviews Clutch who he went to see in Atantic City.  Shadows Fall was there, so was So I Had To who is Ace of Cakes Duff’s band.  Jeff Hates Duff (Sorry Duff, the rest of us think you rule!).  Angus talked to a drunk guy at the show, and was picked up by a guy (we swear!) and thrown into the mosh pit.  Ed likes Cake.

We listen to Ski’s (of Deadly Blessing) band Faith Factor and review.  Faith Factor is a Christian metal band.

We interview Scott Wily of Vital Remains and Zircon, and learn much about Josh’s past.  Ed gets slobbered by metal Buck.  We learn Josh is not embarrassing…. at all.

Finally we learn all about Ed, and his Buck slobber filled shirt.

Episode 09: 40 Pound Pelvis

Josh watched a show on VH-1 called Rock Doc: Do it for the Band: Women of the Sunset Strip. A documentary about the broads that hung out with the Glam Rock Bands. Hosted by Bobby Brown…naturally. Angus goes on to review the new Steel Panther album, Dealth To All But Metal. Some might remember this band when they were Metal Shop. We digress into Wizard World Philly 2009 and Heroes Con in Charlotte, NC. Back to metal Jeff fills us in that Victory Records put us back on their mailing list. First one reviewed: The Autumn Offering: Requiem. Darkest Hour: The Eternal Returns. Bury Your Dead: Nothing Personal. Rob reviews Howard Leese: Secret Weapon. Howard was the guitar player for Heart. Josh has news!! Faith No More had a reunion sans the guitar player guy. Apparently Down has a third CD and are working on a Fourth. Rob breaks through with some Howard Leese and we get a little enjoyment out of it. Back to Josh’s news. Europe has a new CD. Fantastic. More reviews from Jeff! Alex Beyrodt’s Voodoo Circle. Angus saw Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen. Starring Megan Fox and that dude.  From the movie we transform (nice right?) to more reviews Covered Call: Money Never Sleeps. Josh brings up the NFL? Three offensive lineman from the Dallas Cowboys have formed a band—Free Reign. Which is weird right? Devin Townsend has a new CD called Ki. We also learned that Red Bull and Beer are bad for Josh. He becomes retarded.

Episode 07: Everybody Loves Buck

We start off with some reviews from Josh—Ted Nugent: Scream Dream and Austrian Death Machine and we hear Josh’s impression of Arnold Schwarzenegger. Which was HYSTERICAL. Listen to that part of the show now and hear it later! Jeff has read yet another book, Anthony Bourdain’s Kitchen Confidential. From there the show gets a bit messy but comes back when we briefly discuss CDs that signaled the end of a band. Jeff was not a fan of Bruce Dickinson’s Skunkworks, Jeremy was not a fan of Primus’ Tales from the Punchbowl. To bring it back around Angus brought up Flight 666 the Iron Maiden feature. Jeff questions why Eddie Trunk is so popular in the Metal community. Some other names are tossed around, somewhere in there Adam Curry comes up and Jeremy plugs the No Agenda podcast with Adam Curry and John C. Dvorak. The conversation wraps back to the Iron Maiden Flight 666 and Josh throws the question out there who would you want to sing for Iron Maiden if Bruce Dickinson wasn’t with the band. Jeff said Michael Kiske (Helloween) would have been a great choice, everyone else starts to just toss random names out there. Angus said Dio, Jeremy said Chris Cornell, Josh said Steve Perry. During all this Buck pukes, Josh considers eating it on a roll. Angus has a review of Warbringer and we wrap up with a lively discussion of that nectar of the gods—beer. Angus closes the show about a bad night with a beer bong…

Episode 06: I Want a Beer

We premiere for the world the Official Metal Rules! Radio Theme song! Check it out on the Official Metal Rules! Radio MySpace page—be our friend.

The Show starts off with Jeff declaring that there was, “no banging on Bones” he was not thrilled with the season ending of the Fox show, Bones. On to reviews…Jeff reviews Beyond Dishonor: Signs of a Struggle. Jeff is a little nervous since he wasn’t a fan of the CD. So, Josh said he would review it. Josh reviewed Black Label Society’s Skullage. Back to Jeff, he reviews Resurrecturis: Non Voglio Morire. Next up is Angus with Nuclear Theatre—we get to hear a few samples. Angus, Rob and Jeff weren’t fans of the vocals but Josh and Jeremy liked what they heard in general. Following that we play Scarlet Sins. Which we all agreed was pretty good…along will liking the band, Josh also felt the Scarlet Sin’s bass player should make out with him.  The penultimate moment came when Jeremy reviewed Metallica’s Deathmagnetic—he didn’t really like it. Angus found an article on Blabbermouth that had a piece of an interview James Hetfield did with Classic Rock Magazine. We close the show with Tomorrow’s Outlook “Doubt”. Tomorrow’s Outlook singer Mike Gorham did the vocals on the Metal Rules! Radio theme.

Metal Rules! Radio Idol! There is a call to all bands out there to do your best cover of the Metal Rules! Radio theme song. The winning band will be interviewed by us on an upcoming show. Put your song on a CD and mail it to: Metal Rules! Radio Idol, 3 Overbrook Circle, Moorestown, NJ 08057

Episode 02: An Evening with JJ and BBQ Chicken

Joining us this time is JJ from Divine Rapture, Vile and Hate Eternal. We find out that he has nothing to do with Lost, Fringe and “Dy-no-mite” is not his catch phrase. He’s a very cool, very funny guy and we were thrilled to have him in studio. By “in studio” I mean Angus’ dining room. Also making a cameo is the Metal Rules! Radio mascot BUCK. After the show, we had BBQ chicken prepared by Chef Angus. If you want the recipe contact Angus.

For review Jeff blazed through, Minotaur, Boxcutter and Forsaken.
